Ski competition, for all age categories and levels of difficulty.

The competition was initiated by the Hunedor mountain rescuers in memory of their colleague, Nicolae Schiau, who was among the first people to identify, in the 80s, the tourist potential of the Râuşor tourist area, located at 1,200 m altitude.

“Nicolae Schiau was a pioneer of the area. In 1980, at the initiative of him and some engineers from Hidroconstrucţia, the first ski slope was opened in Râusor, and two years later a ski lift was operating here with the cable fixed to the poles and with roller batteries. Without this ski lift, the area would now have been an old worker’s colony, left after the hydrotechnical works on the Rău Mare Retezat”, said the head of the Salvamont Hunedoara County Public Service, Ovidiu Bodean, on Thursday.

The slope from Râusor now measures 1,200 meters and has two versions of descent, approved for different degrees of difficulty.
