You can practise ski-mountaineering (also known as ski touring) in the area. Well-equipped for the mountain and with a high level of knowledge about mountains and the snow layer or with the help of a guide, you can cross the massifs around Haţeg Depression, far from the crowded ski slopes.

Țara Hațegului offers many skiing and snowboarding opportunities – Râușor has a ski slope with electric lifts and facilities for nocturnal skiing. Besides the ski slope and the other facilities, in Râușor you can find accommodation and food services all year round, and during the ski season ski instructors are also available. Râușor alpine ski complex is situated in the Retezat Massif at an altitude of 1,200-1,400 meters.
